Iran Condemns Deadly Terrorist Attack in Iraq’s Karbala

  • Five attackers armed with suicide vests, rifles and grenades have killed 18 people in the Iraqi town of Ain al-Tamer, southwest of Baghdad, local officials say. Local officials at the provincial health directorate confirmed the death toll in the attack, which occurred late on Sunday, and said at least 26 people were also wounded. In a statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said “Takfiri terrorists commit such crimes and kill innocent people while knowing that they are living out their final days in Iraq.” He expressed his sympathy with the Iraqi govement and nation as well as families of the victims of the evil move.   • US Loses Hundreds of Thousands of Guns in Iraq, Afghanistan: Report

  • An investigation by the organization, Action on Armed Violence, AOAV,  on data from the US Department of Defense showed that Pentagon was keeping poor records and there was a discrepancy in gun numbers.   Looking at the publicly available data, AOAV, estimated that the  US Department of Defense sent over 1.4 million small arms - including pistols, rifles and machine guns to Iraq and Afghanistan, but govement records can only account for around 700,000 of them, only 48 percent of what was sent, TeleSUR news website reported on Saturday. The US Department of Defense reported 484,680 small arms sent to Afghanistan, but the AOAV found over 503,328.  In Iraq, the US Department of Defense reported 206, 446 small arms while the AOAV found over 740,000. Including small arms and grenade launchers, 210,153 weapons were sent to Iraq and 509,321 to Afghanistan.   • Romania, Kuwait Agriculture Ministers Injured in Car Crash

  • The ministry said Agriculture Minister Achim Irimescu and Kuwaiti counterpart Ali Saleh Al-Omair sustained head injuries Thursday moing in southe Romania after the car they were traveling was involved in a collision with another car, AP reported.  The ministry said both ministers were conscious and not in any danger. An interpreter traveling in the same car also had minor injuries. The three are being treated at the County Hospital in Slobozia, close to where the crash occurred.   • Iraq Receives A New Batch of F-16 Fighter Jets from US

  • Iraq Defense Ministry's spokesman, Brig. Gen. Tahseen Ibrahim, told The Associated Press that the new batch consisted of four fighter jets. Ibraim did not give more details or say when the next shipment will be delivered. With the new arrivals, Iraq has now eight F16s in service, out of 36 fighter jets the US agreed to sell to Baghdad. Also Monday, a bomb went off at an outdoor market in the town of Youssifiyah, 20 kilometers (12 miles) south of Baghdad, killing four shoppers and wounding 11, a police officer said. Two more civilians were killed in another bomb explosion in a commercial area in Baghdad's weste Eskan neighborhood. That attack also wounded eight people, another police officer said. Medical officials confirmed the casualty figures. All officials spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to release information. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attacks, but they bore the hallmarks of Daesh, which often targets commercial areas and large gatherings. Iraq has been going through its worst crisis since summer 2014 when Daesh terrorists captured much of the country's north and the west, including the second-largest city of Mosul.
