Five attackers armed with suicide vests, rifles and grenades have killed 18 people in the Iraqi town of Ain al-Tamer, southwest of Baghdad, local officials say. Local officials at the provincial health directorate confirmed the death toll in the attack, which occurred late on Sunday, and said at least 26 people were also wounded. In a statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said “Takfiri terrorists commit such crimes and kill innocent people while knowing that they are living out their final days in Iraq.” He expressed his sympathy with the Iraqi govement and nation as well as families of the victims of the evil move. Speaking in a meeting with visiting secretary general of Hezbollah al-Nujaba, a major Iraqi Shiite resistance movement, Sheikh Akram al-Kaabi, in Tehran on Sunday, Boroujerdi highlighted Washington’s plots to sow discord in Iraq and lead the Arab country into breaking up, saying the US and Saudi Arabia have tried to show the ongoing war in Iraq as religious conflicts. However, top Iraqi Shiite cleric Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani have foiled the plots, the Iranian parliamentarian noted. “We are opposed to the disintegration of Iraq and the country should remain integrated,” he said, adding that unity in Iraq is to the benefit of the whole Iraqi nation as well as the Islamic community. Addressing a conference in Tehran on Saturday evening, President Rouhani said the acts of military aggression have led to the dire situation at present. The terrorist activities that have plagued the region and the world derive from the invasion and occupation of Afghanistan and Iraq, he stressed. An investigation by the organization, Action on Armed Violence, AOAV,  on data from the US Department of Defense showed that Pentagon was keeping poor records and there was a discrepancy in gun numbers.   Looking at the publicly available data, AOAV, estimated that the  US Department of Defense sent over 1.4 million small arms - including pistols, rifles and machine guns to Iraq and Afghanistan, but govement records can only account for around 700,000 of them, only 48 percent of what was sent, TeleSUR news website reported on Saturday. The US Department of Defense reported 484,680 small arms sent to Afghanistan, but the AOAV found over 503,328.  In Iraq, the US Department of Defense reported 206, 446 small arms while the AOAV found over 740,000. Including small arms and grenade launchers, 210,153 weapons were sent to Iraq and 509,321 to Afghanistan. The ministry said Agriculture Minister Achim Irimescu and Kuwaiti counterpart Ali Saleh Al-Omair sustained head injuries Thursday moing in southe Romania after the car they were traveling was involved in a collision with another car, AP reported.  The ministry said both ministers were conscious and not in any danger. An interpreter traveling in the same car also had minor injuries. The three are being treated at the County Hospital in Slobozia, close to where the crash occurred. The crew of Admiral Kuznetsov, Russia’s only aircraft-carrying cruiser, is preparing for a deployment to the shores of Syria. A source in the Defense Ministry told RIA Novosti that the carrier is currently undergoing repairs and will be ready for the long-range operation by the end of September. "The carrier has arrived at the 35th dockyard to undergo a second stage of upgrades and to restore its technical readiness. In a meeting with a delegation from Iraq’s Ministry of Trade in Tehran, Afkhami Rad said in order for a boost to the volume of bilateral trade exchange, Iran and Iraq need to carry out a free trade agreement signed by the two countries’ officials at an exclusive exhibition organized by Iran in Baghdad back in 2014. To implement that agreement, Tehran and Baghdad can begin with preferential trade arrangements and then reciprocally eliminate tariffs on certain goods, he added. In a Tuesday meeting with Faleh al-Fayyad, the national security adviser to Iraq’s prime minister, Shamkhani stressed the need for accelerating the activities of Iran-Iraq joint committee coordinating the implementation of a bilateral border agreement. Active involvement of the joint committee in settlement of problems will contribute to economic boom along the common borders and enhance trade ties between Iran and Iraq, he added. “MasterCard does not have any activities in Iran, as sanctions have remained in place for US-based companies for some time,” Seth Eisen told Azerbaijan's Trend news agency on Monday. His remarks came after Iran’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mahmoud Vaezi announced on Sunday that financial branches of the country’s Post Company will offer credit card services in late August. “On August 8, 2016, six Tu-22M3 long-range bombers, coming from Russian territory, performed a concentrated airstrike with high-explosive ammunition against the facilities of Daesh in areas east and northwest of Palmyra, near the settlements of Es Sukhne and Arak,” the ministry said in a statement late on Monday. Iraq Defense Ministry's spokesman, Brig. Gen. Tahseen Ibrahim, told The Associated Press that the new batch consisted of four fighter jets. Ibraim did not give more details or say when the next shipment will be delivered. With the new arrivals, Iraq has now eight F16s in service, out of 36 fighter jets the US agreed to sell to Baghdad. Also Monday, a bomb went off at an outdoor market in the town of Youssifiyah, 20 kilometers (12 miles) south of Baghdad, killing four shoppers and wounding 11, a police officer said. Two more civilians were killed in another bomb explosion in a commercial area in Baghdad's weste Eskan neighborhood. That attack also wounded eight people, another police officer said. Medical officials confirmed the casualty figures. All officials spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to release information. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attacks, but they bore the hallmarks of Daesh, which often targets commercial areas and large gatherings. Iraq has been going through its worst crisis since summer 2014 when Daesh terrorists captured much of the country's north and the west, including the second-largest city of Mosul.
