Speaking to reporters in Tehran on Wednesday, Seyed Hossein Mirshojaeean Hosseini said that during the first five months of the current Iranian year (which began on March 20), the administration has approved $7 billion as foreign investment, $1.6bln to $1.7bln of which has been absorbed. The Izvestia newspaper said citing a source familiar with the recent consultations on Syrian settlement in the Swiss city of Geneva that the United States had sent Russia a package of proposals aimed at coordination between their air forces, Sputnik reported. Izvestia added that Moscow made it clear for Washington that Russian Aerospace Forces were not involved in aerial operation over Aleppo and the United States should be engaged in a dialogue on the issue with Syria itself. The media outlet added that Russia had no objections to coordination of its efforts with the United States, but only at a distance of several dozens of miles around Aleppo. “Regarding cyber attacks (on) some petrochemical units, we can say that it has been discovered and (viruses have been found) in an inactive state,” General Jalali said on Saturday, adding that necessary measures are being taken against the threat. He noted that petrochemical complexes, which are controlled by supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) industrial control systems, are among centers that can be targeted by cyber attacks through viruses. The official said that inspections by the Civil Defense Organization led to the discovery of inactive viruses in one or two petrochemical complexes and required defense measures were taken accordingly. He said examinations by the organization showed that some of the foreign software products used there were contaminated with viruses right at the time of installation. Following months of intelligence measures and operations by the province’s security forces, a major gang of kidnappers was identified and disbanded, Dadkhoda Salari said on Saturday. He added that 13 hostages held by the 7-strong group were released during the operations. The hostage takers chained and frequently tortured the hostages to make their families pay the ransom demanded by the outlaws, the official said. An investigation by the organization, Action on Armed Violence, AOAV,  on data from the US Department of Defense showed that Pentagon was keeping poor records and there was a discrepancy in gun numbers.   Looking at the publicly available data, AOAV, estimated that the  US Department of Defense sent over 1.4 million small arms - including pistols, rifles and machine guns to Iraq and Afghanistan, but govement records can only account for around 700,000 of them, only 48 percent of what was sent, TeleSUR news website reported on Saturday. The US Department of Defense reported 484,680 small arms sent to Afghanistan, but the AOAV found over 503,328.  In Iraq, the US Department of Defense reported 206, 446 small arms while the AOAV found over 740,000. Including small arms and grenade launchers, 210,153 weapons were sent to Iraq and 509,321 to Afghanistan.
