  • Turkish tanks crossed into Syria Saturday, allegedly to support Syrian rebels against the Daesh (ISIL) terror group, Anadolu news agency said. Turkey launched a cross-border operation on Aug. 24 along with Free Syrian Army units in what Ankara claims is an attempt to clear the village of Jarablus of Daesh militants. Since then, rebels have been seizing villages along the Turkish border near Jarablus and the weste Cobanbey district from Daesh.   • The strikes near the town of Cukurca in a mountainous part of the border province of Hakkari come after a series of attacks launched by the PKK, which has fought a three-decade insurgency for Kurdish autonomy in southeaste Turkey, Reuters reported. Turkish military has frequently carried out airstrikes after a two-and-a-half-year ceasefire and peace process between the govement and the PKK broke down last summer. More than 40,000 people have been killed in the conflict since the PKK - designated a "terrorist group" by Turkey, the US and the European Union - began its armed campaign in 1984.   • "The euro-based settlement system for South Korea-Iran trade will start on Aug. 29," Yoo Il-ho said as cited by Yonhap news agency recently. "The opening of the system will help further promote bilateral trade and investment (between the two countries),” he added. The finance minister further said the country’s KEB Hana Bank, Shinhan Bank and Woori Bank will handle the euro-based payment system, which uses the euro as a medium of trade, which is widely preferred by Iranian companies. The euro-based payment system is expected to pave the way for Korean businesses to speed up $45.6 billion worth bilateral projects that have been sealed in May during President Park Geun-hye’s visit to Iran following the removal of anti-Tehran sanctions.   • Romania, Kuwait Agriculture Ministers Injured in Car Crash

  • The ministry said Agriculture Minister Achim Irimescu and Kuwaiti counterpart Ali Saleh Al-Omair sustained head injuries Thursday moing in southe Romania after the car they were traveling was involved in a collision with another car, AP reported.  The ministry said both ministers were conscious and not in any danger. An interpreter traveling in the same car also had minor injuries. The three are being treated at the County Hospital in Slobozia, close to where the crash occurred.   • A ministry spokesman said the armed forces were studying other basing options for six reconnaissance planes, a refueling plane and 250 soldiers if German lawmakers vote to end the use of the base over Ankara's refusal to allow them to visit, Reuters reported.
