Tehran, Moscow Role in Settling Regional Crises ‘Constructive’: Turkish FM

“We have always said that Russia and Iran play an important and constructive role in solving crises in such regional states as Syria and Iraq,” Cavusoglu said as cited by the Milliyet newspaper on Friday.

His remarks came after a Thursday meeting with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif in Tehran on bilateral relations and the latest developments in the Middle East.

On Friday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said the Turkish top diplomat “made a short visit to Tehran yesterday to follow up on the agreements and consultations held between the two countries during Zarif’s visit to Ankara last week.”

He added that the negotiations between the Iranian and Turkish foreign ministers in Tehran lasted for five hours.

The official noted that during Zarif’s visit to Ankara and his talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and other senior officials on August 12, the sides agreed to hold intensive negotiations at different levels.

Qassemi said the two countries’ senior officials would hold several meetings at different levels in the near future.
