Torrential Rain Affects Hundreds of Thousands in East China

As of 4 pm (local time) the lives of 285,600 people in 11 counties had been disrupted by the downpour, while 2,085 others had been evacuated, according to the provincial flood control and drought relief headquarters.

The headquarters estimated 24,600 hectares of crops were affected, but no casualties have been reported, Xinhua reported.

The provincial meteorological department has forecast persistent rainfall for most of the province over the next 24 hours, bringing risks of landslides and mud and rock flows in mountainous regions.
