Minor Fire in Iran’s Petchem Plant Extinguished

A unit at Kimia Company, a subsidiary of Bandar Imam petrochemical complex, caught fire on Friday morning. Local residents say they heard a loud blast.

The fire was extinguished immediately, left no casualties and caused limited financial damages, Mohammad Khademian, head of the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) unit at the petrochemical complex said.

The Friday’s fire marked the fourth incident in the country’s petrochemical factories over the past few weeks.

In late July, a fire broke out at a storage tank in Bistoon Petrochemical Complex in Iran’s western province of Kermanshah. The plant returned to service in less than 24 hours.

They follow the most serious incident in the history of Iran’s petrochemical industry in July, when an inferno broke out at Bu Ali Sina Petrochemical Refinery Complex in Mahshahr and raged at a giant storage tank for more than two days.
